What is PFLAG?

Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays of Shreveport/Bossier City, LA promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons, their families and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten an ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation, and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.

Our Shreveport/Bossier City chapter of PFLAG was started in 1993. Our members are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and straight -- more than a sexual continuum, we are like the stars in the sky, each one an individual.  We are also all ages, from infants to seniors.  Some of us are parents of gay children, some are other family members, some are friends, and many are gay.  Some members are motivated purely by a love of justice and human kindness.  Our group has a strong feeling of family, but we're the kind of family that's always looking for the next cousin to walk through the door and join us.
